Charleston Boudoir Featured Session: Boudoir Photoshoot Giveaway Winner Kandi

White Sheet Boudoir Session Charleston

When I began shooting boudoir photography way back in 2004, I had no idea that I would change lives. I just thought it was about having fun and taking pretty photos for people. But over the course of my career, I’ve realized it goes way beyond “pretty pictures.”

Connecting with Kandi through this giveaway reminded me so much of my “Why.” (more about why I love to shoot boudoir here) While I was talking with her on her finalist call, I KNEW she NEEDED this. She needed to see her worth, see her beauty, and to reconnect with herself on a deep level.

I think we accomplished exactly that.

  • What made you decide to enter the giveaway?

I entered due the fact I feel like I will end up alone and I've been struggling with depression. Am I unlovable? Am I going to be alone forever? I wanted something to help me feel good about myself, especially since I'm getting older and my body is changing. I wanted to feel good again :)

  • What were you wanting to gain from having a session?

It wasn't until after I spoke to Dawn the first time that I changed my mind of what i wanted to get out of it. Instead of just building my confidence I really wanted to do the "married" type boudoir shoot for myself. Almost like I was marrying myself and this is for me, not for guys to look at, but just for me.

  • How were you feeling before your shoot? Any thoughts going through your head?

I was nervous. I felt gross about my body and not confident at all.

  • Now that you've had your own photo shoot, how was it?

It was very encouraging. everyone was great and even when I didn't have the courage to speak up they pushed me to so that I loved everything. Dawn is amazing and made me feel so comfortable and confident and it really felt like girls just hanging out.

  • How did you feel about having your hair and makeup done?

I've had my hair and make up done before but she was AWESEOME! I went out right after to show off.

  • What would you say to someone thinking about doing a boudoir session?

I'd definitely suggest it. It's not what you think. I thought initially it was going to be about getting pictures that you like but it's so much more than that. It's an inside transformation of what you think and feel about yourself.

  • Is there anything that we could have done better to make your experience perfect?

No, I can't thank you enough!

Charleston Boudoir Featured Session: Katrina

Anyone that owns a business knows that referrals are the greatest way to say “thank you” when you had a great experience somewhere. And for the last 20ish years, my boudoir photography studio has thrived thanks to so many of you that encouraged your friends to book a session with me. This one, however, was above and beyond.

You may remember my post featuring Amanda from North Carolina who I’ve now photographed 3 times. This is her bestie who flew all the way from Michigan to see me. Yes, Michigan. I wish I could say we had nothing but sunshine and warm weather to offer her here in CHS, but we sure steamed it up in the studio.

Katrina booked this session as a well deserved gift to herself. She’s a homeschooling mama who is literally with her kids 24/7 and never takes time to do anything just for her.

Here is what she had to say about her session:

  • What made you decide to do a boudoir session? Please describe how you came to the decision and what finally made you take the leap!

My friend Amanda had done a few sessions with Dawn and each time her photos were absolutely amazing. I knew it was something that I wanted to do I just hadn't "pulled the trigger" until I watched a live Dawn had done showing a sneak into how she runs her sessions and it helped make me feel more comfortable about the process so I finally commited.

  • What made you decide to hire me as your photographer?

I live in Michigan, so traveling to South Carolina for Dawn to do my photos should show how highly I think of her work. I looked through alot of her previous shoots and just fell in love with how classy yet sexy her style was. I also loved the studio look as well! Bonus was that my friend knows her and had already told me how amazing she is in person- and she truly is 💗

  • How were you feeling before your shoot? Any thoughts going through your head?

I definitely had insecurities about my body after kids and trying to find outfits that I felt not only comfortable in, but sexy too.

  • Now that you've had your own photo shoot, how was it?

Incredible! The whole experience from start to finish was SO empowering. Dawn has a way of bringing out the best in you. She's absolutely amazing at posing your body just right too.

  • If this was for a gift, what did your significant other say about your photos? Did they have a favorite pose or outfit?

My husband loved the photos and it was sweet to hear his commentary on them as well. He of course loved them all, but really loved the ones where I was smiling. There was one picture he pointed to and said "I love this one because this is what I see when I make you laugh." 😍

  • How did you feel about having your hair and makeup done?

I was actually a little nervous about the hair and make up. I don't normally wear make up and prefer a more natural look. I told the make up artist I was going for a more soft bridal look and man did she deliver! It was perfect!! Having both hair and make up done for you is also one less thing to worry about and ensures that you will be looking your best for your shoot.

  • What would you say to someone thinking about doing a boudoir session?

DO IT! This is the ultimate way to give you a confidence boost. It's empowering to have these photos to look at and be like "damn I look good- that's me!" You will not regret it.

Top 10 Most Frequently Asked Questions About Boudoir: Charleston Boudoir Photographer

Booking a boudoir session is often overwhelming and nerve wracking for my clients, but sometimes even THINKING about booking a session is enough to send someone into a full blown panic. I want to assure you that feeling this way is 100% normal. You probably have a million thoughts racing through your mind about how it all works, so I compiled a list of my top ten Frequently Asked Questions about boudoir and what happens during a session with me. If you want to find out more, definitely check out my private VIP group HERE.

Do I have to be a model or have experience to work with you? What if I don’t know what to do with my face or how to pose ?

Absolutely not. I don’t expect you to know what you are doing! As a matter of fact, I prefer it that way. It is my job to guide, direct, explain, and SHOW you exactly what to do throughout THE. ENTIRE. SHOOT. Most of the time posing feels ridiculous, but when I show you how it looks on camera, you will be blown away. Facial expressions are wayyy easier then you think, too. Trust me, I got you girl.

Where do you shoot? Is it private? Who will be there during my shoot?

I shoot most of my sessions in my private studio in the Charleston area (exact address will be provided at booking for privacy reasons). My studio set up provides beautiful natural light and awesome hardwood floors which work with almost any style. Myself and the make artist will be the only ones present during your shoot. If you have a cool location, hotel room, etc. we will often travel for an additional fee.

What if I don’t want my pictures to appear on the internet?

My number one priority is your privacy. Most of my clients prefer to keep their photos private, and that’s okay. I photograph many corporate professionals and teachers that require the utmost discretion. The images you see on my social feeds and website are all from clients that have given me permission via signed release form. Having your images shared is entirely up to you and NOT a requirement.

Is hair and makeup included?

YES! Hair and makeup are always included in your session here. Getting dolled up with my awesome hair and makeup gal contributes to the overall look and feel of the finished product and is absolutely necessary for your shoot. It also allows time for you to relax and feel pampered! Make up for photography is extremely different from makeup for everyday or a night out. Even natural makeup requires a lot of skill and expertise to apply for camera. You can choose to go all out glam or “I woke up like this” but either way, I’ve got you covered.

Do you offer payment plans?

Boudoir photography is an investment. No one wants “cheap” boudoir photos! I want you to have the experience of a lifetime and the most beautiful, high quality products to go with it. For this reason, you have the option of either a pre or post session payment plan. Some ladies like the feeling of going into their shoot and having everything paid off up front. Others prefer to make payments over time after their session. Whichever option works best for you. Your finished product is delivered once you are paid in full.

I’ve got stretch marks/ acne/ a couple extra pounds/ a tattoo that I regret. Do you offer airbrushing?

Totally! Every image that you purchase is retouched (by hand, no cheesy filters) so that your final product shows off the best version of you. Choosing flattering wardrobe and professional posing go a long way to camouflage trouble spots. Whatever is left over is handled with retouching. I won’t make you look unrecognizable… that’s not the goal. However, I totally get that most women don’t want to see their cellulite or the giant pimple they woke up with the day of their shoot.

I have no idea what to wear! Where do I buy outfits?

Besides posing, this is probably the thing my clients stress about the most. When you’re booked in for a shoot with me, I send you a VERY detailed prep and wardrobe guide. Every one of my clients has told me how much they loved them and how thorough they are. They are full of inspiration photos, explanations on what looks good on certain body types, and even links on where to buy certain pieces. I also keep a small wardrobe closet here in the studio. Once you arrive for you shoot, we will go through everything you brought with you and choose the best options together.

What type of products do you offer?

Products are my jam, seriously. I’ve hand picked my absolute favorite, high quality albums, heirloom print boxes, and wall art pieces to show off your incredible images. You can order a la carte or choose from one of my curated collections. There is also the option to add on digital files.

Can I bring my boyfriend/ husband/ partner to my shoot and ordering appointment?

Nope, and this is a big one for me. Having an experience like this is transformative and is something you should experience without distraction. I want you to revel in your moment and not wonder about what someone else is thinking. Choosing your photos is a very personal decision and your partner is going to love the photos that you chose. If you would like to invite a female friend to your shoot, make sure she’s fun and supportive.

I’m nervous AF. Help!

Nerves are going to happen, it’s unavoidable. This is a totally new experience for most, and let’s face it… being in your undies with a stranger is intimidating to say the least. I get it. All you have to do is show up. Seriously, even if you’re feeling like a hot mess, just get here. I PROMISE that 5 minutes in, you’re going to wonder why you were freaking out. This is fun and the rewards for facing your fears are life changing.

Charleston Boudoir Featured Session: Joanna

Joanna’s Boudoir Experience

Charleston Boudoir Featured Session: Amanda

boudoir photography target lingerie

I’ve been lucky enough to photograph Amanda 3 times and each time has been better than the last. I love seeing my clients embrace who they are through each phase of their lives and Amanda just keeps on glowing up!

I first met her back in 2012 when I photographer her before her wedding and then again in July of 2020 before celebrating her wedding anniversary. Most recently she traveled here to see me in the new Charleston studio to treat herself and it was exciting to see a familiar face in a new place. It was extra special to connect with here again here and I am forever grateful that she was willing to travel from NC to shoot with me.

Here is what Amanda had to say about her boudoir experience:

When was your session? September 19, 2022

Since you have been photographed by me more than once, how was the experience different each time? I have had the pleasure to be in a different studio each time, but the overall experience has always been the same. Professional yet laid back and fun. There’s absolutely no judgement, just a lot of cheering you on when you nail a pose.

Each of my shoots have been in different stages of life and my body has looked different in each one. Even though I’d love to have that fit body back again, when I see the photos from my last 2 sessions , I actually prefer the curves and soft, feminine vibe of these last 2. I’ve fought so hard over the last few years to get to a place where I can start loving myself and seeing my pictures at the end of a shoot shines a new light on how I should feel about my body vs the perception of it that I walk in the door with.

What made you want to have a 2nd and 3rd session? I decided to do my second session in July 2020 when things had reopened after Covid. I had been housebound with my kids and none of us were doing well mentally during this time. I decided to do this for myself as a pick me up and as a roadtrip to bond with my girls and spend time with their Nana. It was an 8 hour drive from NC to the NJ studio and it was totally worth it.

How were you feeling before your shoot? Any thoughts going through your head? Leading up to my shoot I couldn’t find any outfits that made me feel good about myself. I scrambled the day before, going store to store, searching for something that fit comfortably and that I felt confident in. I was a little stressed that I’d be too big on camera or too wrinkled. Day of the shoot I was a sweaty mess, which is extra sexy right? But once we got started all of those worries went away.

How did you feel seeing your photos this time? t’s been a difficult few years and having gained so much weight, I needed to see myself in a fresh light. These pictures made me feel so much better about all of my feminine curves.

What would you say to someone thinking about doing a boudoir session even if they feel they aren't at their best or feeling nervous? Don’t wait to lose a few pounds or tone up a certain area. Find outfits that you feel good in and Dawn will do the rest. Lighting and posing will cover up any insecurities that you have. I guarantee you will only see yourself as the gorgeous person you are once you have these photos done.

Charleston Boudoir Featured Session: Erica

I absolutely loved working with Erica and being part of her journey. I had followed her on social media and was in awe of the confidence she displayed while sharing her knowledge on health and fitness in her posts. She spoke passionately about the transformation she experienced after the birth of her child to where she was now. Erica was now on the path to loving herself fully and completely, while also not being afraid to take some time for herself. That’s what her boudoir experience was all about for her.

Here is what she had to say:

What made you decide to do a boudoir session? Please describe how you came to the decision and what finally made you take the leap!

At the beginning of the year I decided to finally make myself a priority and invest in self care. After taking care of my health and taking time for me, I found a love for myself that I never had before. I booked my boudoir shoot for me. It was a way to celebrate my newfound self-love and serves as a permanent reminder of how good it feels to put myself first.

What made you decide to hire me as your photographer?

After researching and looking into many photographers who offer boudoir, it was fairly easy to book my shoot with Dawn. Her photos are absolutely stunning and I fell in love with her style right off the bat! There wasn’t a single bad review and women raved about how amazing and comfortable Dawn made them feel - and I knew I needed that!

How were you feeling before your shoot? Any thoughts going through your head?

I was definitely excited before my shoot, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous! This was my first time ever doing anything like this and I’m usually extremely reserved and private.

Now that you've had your own photo shoot, how was it?

It was AMAZING! I’m so glad I did it and so thankful I’ll have these photos for life. It’s truly an experience that I’ll never forget and I’m still amazed at how comfortable Dawn made me feel. She really made me feel like a super model and made the whole process so elegant and easy - even for someone whose never done it before.

How did you feel about having your hair and makeup done?

One of the reasons I booked with Dawn was the fact that hair and makeup were available. I definitely cannot do either for myself so having it done right there in the studio was incredible. I loved getting pampered!

If this was for a gift, what did your significant other say about your photos? Did they have a favorite pose or outfit?

Well, this was a gift to myself.. but my husband definitely didn’t complain! He still loves looking at my box of pictures and we could never pick a favorite because we love them all!

What would you say to someone thinking about doing a boudoir session?

If you’re thinking about booking - DO IT! I recommend it to everyone now and feel every woman should experience this at least once in their lifetime. Any insecurities or concerns you may have - I promise you Dawn will take care of! She is the best at making you feel insanely beautiful and you’ll discover so much confidence from your shoot!

Top Tips To Prepare For Your Boudoir Session: Charleston Boudoir Photography

Ok, you've finally booked your shoot! Now what?

There are tons of nerves and emotions leading up to a boudoir shoot, and that’s 100% normal! Here are my top tips on how to prepare and not freak out. I've got plenty of fail safe tips on choosing outfits, getting organized, and how to look your best for this awesome experience!

Here is another bit of good news. Once you are booked in, I will be sending you some very detailed guides with even more prep info, places to shop, and wardrobe ideas for every body type.

Prep your skin, face, and brows.

  • Hydrate by drinking tons of water the week of/ morning of your shoot. Hydrated skin will look dewy and glowing for the camera.

  • Wash your face and apply a lightweight facial moisturizer and eye cream. Arrive with NO MAKEUP on. Your session fee includes professional makeup application!

  • Groom those brows. Whether you wax, tweeze, or trim be sure your brows are in good condition.

Prep your body.

(And by prep your body I don’t mean starve yourself and workout like a maniac.)

  • Avoid tan lines at all costs. Please. If you need to even out your coloring, try a light spray tan 2 days before your shoot.

  • Shave or wax underarms, legs, and bikini area.

  • Arrive to the studio in loose fitting and comfortable clothes. No jeans, bras, or socks since they all leave weird lines on your body that can take a few hours to resolve.

  • Stretch. Seriously… you are going to basically be doing yoga all day.

Prep your fingers and toes.

  • A simple mani + pedi is fine. Your nails are going to be visible in many of your images, so don’t show up with chipped polish or broken acrylics.

  • I love a light pink or French manicure for a soft pretty look. Dark grays, eggplant and black look amazing for the sexier stuff. You want to make sure your nail color works with all of your outfits.

  • Matching your nail color for both hands and feet is less distracting.

Prep your hair.

  • Arrive to the studio with clean, dry hair. Make sure your hair is completely dry and do not flat iron it. The stylist will have a difficult time adding volume or curls to flat hair.

  • If you color your hair, schedule your touch up 5-7 days before your shoot.

  • Don’t do anything drastic, like cut bangs beforehand. You don’t want to risk being disappointed with your new look.

Prep your outfits.

  • Once you are booked in for your boudoir experience with me, you will receive a wardrobe guide to assist you in choosing outfits, yay!

  • Be realistic about what looks good on your body. For instance, if you dislike your tummy area, don’t choose skimpy undies. Look for something high waisted or opt for a bodysuit.

  • Speaking of bodysuits, bring at least one. They literally look AMAZING on every one.

  • Bring options. You can always return what you don’t use and I will help you select the best pieces.

  • Snip out those little tags.

Prep your mind.

  • Ditch the negativity. Yes, you will be nervous, but obsessing about all the things you dislike about your body is only going to make you doubt yourself. Focus on what you love and get yourself into good headspace.

  • Don’t stress. I have photographed thousands of women in the last 18 or so years. I’m a pro at coaching expression and posing you from head to toe. (I’m also very much a perfectionist, so I’m going to be obsessive about every detail.

  • Breathe. You can do this. It’s going to be fun, I swear.

Charleston Boudoir Featured Session: Sam

I’m usually not a fan of props, but a Harry Potter themed boudoir session is a “HELL YEAH” for me. Sam was so much fun to shoot with. From the minute she walked in with her Taylor Swift tee shirt, I knew we were going to be instant friends. Don’t let her sweet vibe fool you though, this girl brought the fire!

This is what Sam had to say about her experience:

When was your session? February 2021

What made you decide to do a boudoir session? Please describe how you came to the decision and what finally made you take the leap! I was turning 30 and wanted to do a Thirty & Flirty shoot for myself.

What made you decide to hire me as your photographer? The quality of work that I saw made me decide to use you as my photographer.

How were you feeling before your shoot? Any thoughts going through your head? I was excited mostly. Maybe a little nervous. I'm not a sexy person but looking at my photos, you would have no idea!

Now that you've had your own photo shoot, how was it? IT WAS AMAZING!!!

How did you feel about having your hair and makeup done? I felt glamorous. It is always strange for me to have that much makeup on but I looked smoking hot

If this was for a gift, what did your significant other say about your photos? Did they have a favorite pose or outfit? GIFT FOR MYSELF. I liked the photo of my butt while I was laying on the bed in the green outfit.

What would you say to someone thinking about doing a boudoir session? WIth Dawn? DO IT WITHOUT HESITATION. My girl creates magic with that camera of hers.

Is there anything that we could have done better to make your experience perfect? My experience with Dawn was perfect! I look back on those photos and remember how incredibly confident I felt. It was an amazing experience.

Charleston Boudoir Featured Session: Shakira

So often when a client comes in for their boudoir shoot, the first thing they do is run down a list of things they don’t like about themselves. Shakira was exactly the opposite. This babe had no problem rattling off a list of things she loved about herself, but I could tell she was still nervous. However, she trusted me from the door and worked through the poses I demonstrated with ease. Trust is the #1 ingredient for a successful shoot and the results speak for themselves!

Here’s what Shakira had to say about her session:

When was your session? August 2021

What made you decide to do a boudoir session? Please describe how you came to the decision and what finally made you take the leap! I followed Glamour Boudoir for years, always too shy and too self conscious to actually book an appointment. But her body of work always inspired me and I thought one day when I'm pretty enough and comfortable enough in my skin, I'll book a session. And then I had two daughters , in which I instill the value of self-love and self-worth on a daily basis, and a very bad near death experience that pushed me out of my fears and essentially out of my own way. So literally the day I was released from the hospital, I booked my appointment with Dawn and never looked back.

What made you decide to hire me as your photographer? I read all of the reviews saying how you made each and every girl feel like you were an old friend who reminded them to love themselves for who they are and you truly did just that. I felt like I had the most awesome girls day with a girlfriend who empowered me to embrace my beauty and trusted you to show me the me I never could see for myself.

How were you feeling before your shoot? Any thoughts going through your head? I was terrified. I was worried about what I would look like, my posing, all the things just had me in a weird headspace. But I also was extremely excited because I deserved this experience for myself and my self esteem.

Now that you've had your own photo shoot, how was it? It was absolutely a life changing experience!!! Dawn made me look and feel beautiful. Something I could never embrace and believe that I was. As soon as I walked in, they both greeted me so warmly, chatted with me to help ease my nerves, looked at my clothing options , and then walked me through what the experience would entail. It was like a photoshoot with your best gal pals.

How did you feel about having your hair and makeup done? It was the first time I ever had my make up professionally done. Shannon was a complete doll and knew exactly what would compliment my complexion and just overall look good on me. That really helped me feel beautiful. The hair styling was equally on point.

If this was for a gift, what did your significant other say about your photos? Did they have a favorite pose or outfit? While it wasn't a gift for him but for myself, he really enjoyed all of the pictures. His favorite outfit was the black lingerie set with the bunny ears. I have a long standing obsession with Playboy and utilized that to help me pick out lingerie. His favorite pose was one the couch with my head tilted back. It's currently hanging up in my bedroom.

What would you say to someone thinking about doing a boudoir session? I would say do it for yourself. Being able to see yourself in a sensual manner truly does empower you. I've embraced the softer, sexier side of my personality since my shoot and it is truly for the better. Not only will you feel great about yourself, you'll thoroughly enjoy the experience.

Charleston Boudoir Featured Session: Samantha

When Samantha walked in the door, she was like a little beam of sunshine… seriously. Her bubbly personality and laid back attitude made it so easy for us to vibe throughout the whole session. We decided on a natural and soft makeup look to compliment her boho inspired wardrobe and chose the perfect accessories to go with it.

Here is what Samantha had to say about her boudoir experience:

When was your session? July 2021

What made you decide to do a boudoir session? Please describe how you came to the decision and what finally made you take the leap! My friend did a shoot with Dawn for her wedding some years back so I started following Dawn on her social medias. I love her work, vibe, how tasteful and elegant her photos are. After viewing her photos and always seeing her posts, I finally decided after maybe 4 years I wanted to do a shoot!

What made you decide to hire me as your photographer? I followed Dawn on Instagram and her photos are so beautiful. Not only the sets but the LIGHTING! I looked at a few other boudoir photographers in the area but Dawn's eye for natural light made me choose her instantly!

How were you feeling before your shoot? Any thoughts going through your head? I was so nervous leading up to my shoot. I stressed myself out finding the perfect outfits and worried about how my body looked. I stopped going to the gym a few months before my shoot and a week beforehand I almost cancelled. I hated how I looked and didn't want to get pictures of myseld half naked. But my husband talked me into keeping the session. It was honestly all I talked about since I booked it and 7 months later it was finally time and I'm so glad I did it!

Now that you've had your own photo shoot, how was it? I had the best time! Dawn and her team made me feel so comfortable and so beautiful. I brought a few outfits and asked Dawn her opinion on which jewelery to wear with what outfit and she helped me complete my looks!

How did you feel about having your hair and makeup done? I loved having my hair and makeup done! Who doesn't?! Getting pampered the having a full photoshoot after that makes you feel like a badass!

If this was for a gift, what did your significant other say about your photos? Did they have a favorite pose or outfit? I did the photoshoot for me, but also for my husband. He loved the photos! I did take some topless and those were his favorites!

What would you say to someone thinking about doing a boudoir session? For anyone thinking about doing a boudoir session I say do it!! Don't wait! Don't let any insecurity keep you from this experience! We are our own worst critic and if you let those insecurities stop you then you'll never do it. Put on the sexy lingerie get your hair and makeup done and rock it! Dawn will do the rest you just have to be you!!

Is there anything that we could have done better to make your experience perfect? I feel my experience was perfect! I felt so comfortable from the minute I walked in. Dawn really made the session comfortable. While getting hair and makeup done we all talked and it felt like being with friends. I did some photos topless in a thong and I didn't feel awkward!

Charleston Boudoir Featured Session: Alison

As soon as I saw that Alison was rocking that vibrant hair color, those curves, and brought a positive attitude to her session, I knew it was going to be an awesome day. Her only hang up was having someone else do her makeup, but I had full confidence that Shannon, my makeup artist, was going to knock it out of the park. Alison’s confidence hit another level the moment we started shooting and soared again when she saw her photographs for the first time. Proof that when you embrace who you are, in this moment, you will absolutely shine.

Here is what Alison had to say about her shoot:

When was your session? January 2021

What made you decide to do a boudoir session? Please describe how you came to the decision and what finally made you take the leap! I was turning 30 and wanted a fun and unique way to celebrate.

What made you decide to hire me as your photographer? I read the reviews that others had left, and loved that every one had something positive to say about you. They all loved how comfortable you made them feel, and of course your pictures were beautiful!

How were you feeling before your shoot? Any thoughts going through your head? I was a little nervous, just because I only had one pose in my repertoire and was worried I wouldn't know what to do. I also have a bad knee and was concerned about that.

Now that you've had your own photo shoot, how was it? It was amazing! Dawn made me feel so good about myself. As a curvier girl, I think the world tends to tell us not to show off our bodies. I've always had a little bit of confidence about myself, but you pushed it to that max. My curves were viewed as a positive and weren't hidden away. I also explained my knee and Dawn made sure I was always comfortable and not in any pain.

How did you feel about having your hair and makeup done? To be honest, I was excited about the hair because I suck at that, but I was a little nervous about my makeup. I went to school for it and have always done it myself. So to have someone else take control, was really pushing my trust but it all came out beautiful!

What would you say to someone thinking about doing a boudoir session? Do it! Do it! Do it! I'm someone who has posted their pictures to to social media, saved one of the pictures as the background of their phone, and shown the pictures to everyone who wants to see. You don't have to be like that, you can just take the photos for you. That's what I wanted at the core, to do something I've never done before and it made me feel sexy, strong and beautiful! I know a lot of people do this as a gift for someone else, but I think at the true root of it, it's really for yourself.

Is there anything that we could have done better to make your experience perfect? Honestly I really can't think of anything. I look back at that day in such high regard.

Why I Love To Shoot Boudoir: Charleston Boudoir Photographer

I can honestly tell you that GB happened entirely by accident. A very magical, happy accident born out of one of the lowest points of my life. At 23, I was completely lost, lonely, and depressed. I had just quit school for a second time, worked at a job that I hated, and had zero motivation to do anything. I was eating too much, drinking too much, and not sleeping enough. One day I woke up and decided I had enough. I found a therapist and joined a gym. One of the suggestions I received was to find a hobby.

Luckily, I had a lot of friends that trusted me to get naked in front of a camera. As I photographed them, I envied their confidence. I envied their “perfect” bodies. What I didn’t realize is that many of them were insecure and felt uncomfortable in their own skin. I had no idea that when they stepped in front of my camera, they were feeling vulnerable and raw. It wasn’t until much later, these women began to share with me how they felt transformed, self assured, and even sexy during their shoot.

It was then that I understood that it’s about so much more than photographs. The photographs were just the mementos of their experience. Little reminders about the power they held within themselves. From moments like that, I realized that I had found my passion.

Seeing a woman walk through the door, shaking with anxiety and wracked with fear, and knowing that in a few short hours, she will feel exhilarated and confident is, THE BEST thing about shooting boudoir. The transformation that comes from connection and trust is something that I don’t take lightly. It is truly an honor when someone chooses me to be their photographer.

Check out these posts from my sessions with my boudoir giveaway winners. Both of these women had a transformational experience and shared their stories.

You Can Do This... Let Me Tell You Why: Charleston Boudoir Photographer

How often do your find yourself feeling burned out, overwhelmed, or just plain blah? You know what the perfect antidote is? Booking in for a session in our Charleston boudoir studio. Before your mind starts racing with reasons why you can’t do this, I’m going to give you a bunch of reasons why you CAN. No more excuses. If you want to find out more, definitely check out my private VIP group here.

I’m too busy to take time for myself right now.

If not now, when? Seriously… There is never going to be the “right” time to do something like this. You have to make time for YOU… your sanity depends on it! It’s so important to remember that if you aren’t taking care of yourself mentally and physically, you will never be in a good position emotionally, to take care of anyone else. You must occasionally choose to slow down and breathe. Taking a few hours for yourself to relax and get pampered is the perfect “time out.” A shoot will leave you with an emotional high that will last for days. The feelings that come from not only doing something wonderful for yourself, but also silencing your inner critic, are priceless.

I need to lose weight first.

I can’t tell you how many women book a session 6 months out with the goal of losing 10 pounds before they come in. You know how many actually lose the weight? None. I get so many panicked emails the night before a session from clients telling me that they feel uncomfortable with their bodies and are freaking out. Here’s the deal. The confidence comes from actually doing the shoot. There is no better way to feel good about where you are RIGHT NOW, than to just do the damn thing. There is no perfect weight or magic number on a scale that will make you feel more amazing than seeing the magic we create together.

I don’t feel sexy anymore.

Aye yi yi. How the heck are you supposed to feel sexy if all you do is run around like a maniac taking care of everyone else all the time? This is the exact reason why you NEED to do a shoot. There is nothing that will spark your feminine energy and sexuality the way that this will. So many clients have told me how much sharing their photos with their spouse sparked a new connection and reignited something they thought was lost. I know it seems like the farthest thing from your mind sometimes, but think about how that would feel. Rediscovering yourself serious game changer!

I have no idea what to wear.

This is an easy one. When you’re booked in for a shoot with me, I send you a VERY detailed wardrobe guide. It’s full of inspiration photos of real clients, explanations on what looks good on certain body types, and even links on where to buy certain pieces. I also keep a small wardrobe closet here in the studio. If lingerie, isn’t your thing, that’s okay, too. There are so many options from sweet to sultry.

I don’t have anyone to do it for.

This one cracks me up every time. It’s for YOU. Even if you’re thinking about doing this for a birthday gift to your partner, or an anniversary gift for your spouse, it’s for you. While it’s easier to rationalize making an investment like this with the idea of giving it as a gift, you will find that it’s a bigger gift to yourself. So girl, you don’t need a reason “why” or a person to gift them to. This is about you and “just because” is reason enough.

I don’t have the money.

Boudoir photography is an investment, no doubt. You definitely don’t want to cut corners when it comes to intimate photos. It is so important to me that I give you the experience of a lifetime and the most beautiful, high quality products to go with it. There are multiple options for payment plans both before and after your session. We will find a way to make your payments comfortable.

Let’s Be Real For A Second: Charleston Boudoir Photographer

This is my best friend.  Shannon has been my best friend for over 15 years.  Shannon swore to me for years that she was not photogenic, that she much preferred being on the other side of the camera.  She hates her legs.  She hates her nose.  She battles with the same feelings of insecurity that I myself have felt... and that every single one of you have felt at some point in your life.  Here is the difference between Shannon and every one of you that have not yet stepped in front of my camera... She felt the fear and did it anyway.  She refused to let her insecurities rule her world. She trusted me.

This is not the first image I've taken of Shannon and God knows it won't be the last.  The day we shot these images was a shitty day... for the both of us.  We were planning for a week or so to have a "play date" and neither of us wanted to let the other down, so we showed up at the studio.  I hadn't slept, hadn't eaten,  was overwhelmed having gone off of medication I was on for years, and was a flat out, hot mess.  Shannon had an argument with her fiancé,  had been crying, had PMS (we all know how we feel when we have PMS) and felt "gross".  We almost said forget it, let's shoot another time.  But we didn't.

She threw on some red lipstick, messed up her hair, climbed on the couch and got vulnerable.  She turned down the noise in her head and TRUSTED me.  This is what happened. MAGIC.

So here's the thing- You can continue to tell yourself that you're not pretty enough, skinny enough, sexy enough- whatever... Or you can suck it up and reach out- tell me what you're afraid of, tell me you're not photogenic and don't know how to be sexy, or better yet tell me why you want to do this even though you're scared to death.  Then trust me, MAGIC will happen.

If you need some more encouragement and proof, check out this post about why I know you can do this!
